A harvest holiday, Baisakhi or Vaisakhi is largely celebrated by the Sikh community. This year, it falls on April 14. The day holds great significance and is celebrated as the Sikh New Year, according to the solar calendar.
As such, followers throughout the globe wear new garments and attend gurudwaras. They give prayers and attend the kirtan route. Sikhs visit gurudwaras on the day of Baisakhi, and in Punjab, specifically, langars are organized at various places.
Traditionally, kada prasad (wheat halwa) is served. Baisakhi or Vaisakhi is one of the important leaves celebrated by the followers of Sikhism around the globe. The day is important for the Sikh community for two high reasons first, it marks the confirmation of the Khalsa Panth of soldiers under Guru Gobind Singh, and second, it marks the morning of the crop season.
