World Vegetarian Day
World Vegetarian Day is observed worldwide on October 1st of each year. The purpose of the day is to increase public awareness of the moral, health, and humanitarian benefits of a vegetarian diet. October is Vegetarian Awareness Month, which begins on October 1 and ends on November 1 with World Vegan Day. Other names for Vegetarian Awareness Month include "Month of Vegetarian Food," "Reverence for Life Month," and others. Did you know that India has the lowest per capita meat consumption in the world and that 10% of the world's population is vegetarian? People acknowledge the advantages of being a vegetarian and the possibility that a meatless diet may be gratifying on October 1. It's World Vegetarian Day, so bust out the veggie burgers, tofu, cheese pizza, and other delicacies without meat!
History
The North American Vegetarian Society (NAVS) established World Vegetarian Day in 1977 to promote the advantages of a vegetarian diet and to inspire people to protect the lives of animals. In 1978, the day was additionally supported by the International Vegetarian Union. The 'Month of Vegetarian Food' officially begins at the beginning of the month of October. The International Vegetarian Union organised the event to raise awareness of the advantages of a plant-based diet and lifestyle.
Significance
Vegetables, seeds, legumes, fruits, nuts, and grains make up the majority of a vegetarian's diet, along with dairy, eggs, and honey that aren't obtained by killing or eating animals. The goal of World Vegetarian Day is to increase public awareness of environmental issues, animal welfare and rights concerns, and the advantages of going vegetarian for one's own health.
How should the day be honoured?
Pass the veg wealth around - Try going vegetarian for one day if you are currently not. Bring some vegetables to your family and friends.
Try the vegetarian choice when dining out - If you're going to a restaurant, consider ordering a vegetarian dish.
Visit your local farmer's market and purchase some of the freshest and tastiest fruits and veggies there.
On World Vegetarian Day, what occurs?
Since World Vegetarian Day is not a recognised holiday, companies, institutions of higher learning, and governmental offices are all open. This day is used by many vegetarian organisations and groups to raise awareness of the advantages of vegetarianism and to instruct people on how to make the switch. In addition to offering entirely vegetarian fare throughout the day, many eateries and restaurants also host cooking lessons utilising vegetarian ingredients for both students and the public.
