National Cancer Awareness Day

National Cancer Awareness Day

Since 2014, India has commemorated National Cancer knowledge Day on November 7th to raise public knowledge of cancer prevention, treatment options, and early detection. In honour of National Cancer Awareness Day and in an effort to lessen the incidence of cancer across the country.

National Cancer Awareness Day

November 7 is National Cancer Awareness Day, recognised worldwide. Approximately 70% of cancer-related deaths occur in low- and middle-income countries, according to WHO estimates. About one-third of deaths are related to cancer, which can be attributed to a number of factors such as smoking, having a high body mass index, drinking, eating few fruits and vegetables, and not exercising enough. The financial effect of cancer is significant and rising. Cancer is the greatest cause of mortality worldwide, expected to claim the lives of about 10 million people in 2022. The World Health Organisation (WHO) reports that cancer accounts for around one in six deaths worldwide, making it the second most common cause of death worldwide. Asia accounts for 49.3% of all cases worldwide of the fatal illness, according to the 2020 World Cancer Report published by the World Health Organisation (WHO) and the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC). According to the report, there would be a 59.2% increase in new cases of the disease reported in Asia between 2020 and 1940. According to the survey, 10% of Indians will have cancer at some point in their lives, and 15% will pass away from it.

Regarding Cancer
Cancer is the outcome of aberrant cell growth in the body, which also invades other tissues. Almost every portion of the body is susceptible to it. Malignancy is another word for cancer. It may surprise you to learn that there are over 100 different varieties of cancer, such as skin, prostate, lung, and breast cancer. Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan declared National Cancer Awareness Day, which is celebrated nationwide. He feels that it's time for us to take the fight to this illness head-on.

In The Past
In September 2014, Union Health Minister Dr. Harsh Vardhan initially declared National Cancer Awareness Day. As a result, the day was observed for the first time in 2014 and is dedicated to the early identification and treatment of cancer. Let us inform you that the state-level cancer control effort was initially initiated by Harsh Vardhan. People are invited to come in for a free screening on this day at municipal clinics, CGHS, and government hospitals. In order to raise awareness, pamphlets with information on how to prevent cancer and recognise its early symptoms are also distributed. The "Suhurtham" programme, which the Keralan government planned, would provide free cancer treatment in district and medical college hospitals.
